The upcoming Wayward Pines finale will “set the stage” for a possible second season, Carla Gugino has hinted.
In an interview with TVLine, Gugino reiterated that while a great deal of resolution will be had by the end of the first season, the finale will provide viewers with a glimpse of a “possible future”:
“Episode 10 will give you a significant amount of resolution while setting the stage for a possible future of what’s going to happen in this town.”
It remains to be seen if Wayward will get the chance to depict that future on-screen, though the show has delivered decent summer ratings and a pretty intriguing story so far.
Hedging his bets, showrunner Chad Hodge accepts that “there’s a hint of [a future]” in the finale, but reiterates that it wont leave fans in plot purgatory if the renewal gods reject a second season:
“But Wayward Pines was always designed to be just these 10 episodes. So the promise that we’ve been making, that there’s a beginning, middle and end, is a real one, and we deliver on it.”
