“We were saving it for a special occasion.”
It’s not been a great year for Person Of Interest. Not only is CBS’ sci-fi thriller all but cancelled with a shortened season in 2016, but the show’s writers also had to deal with an honest-to-God pregnant cast member! While the show’s forced return to its procedural ways didn’t turn out in the viewers’ best interest (ha!), it still managed to surprise and entertain with its more relevant episodes.
Person Of Interest started the year with one of its strongest episodes to date – an alternate reality-type episode from the perspective of the Machine itself – and followed it with another strong outing that, again, revealed new layers to the show’s intriguing overarching storyline and compelling characters. A third surprise before the season’s action-packed finale race involved a major character returning from the grave to give us some much-needed insight into the stoic main character, John Reese (Jim Caviezel).
Person Of Interest is not afraid to experiment with its own format once in a while, and, somehow, it always turns out great. While the show has known better days, its highs definitely outweigh its lows, earning it a spot on this list once again.
