Will ABC Bring Alias Back Like Sexy?

What do you do when Lost ends? You reboot Alias, of course!

It may only be “initial talk” at this stage (according to E!), but the fact that the Alphabet network are even considering bringing back Alias so soon speaks volumes for their desire to retain the Lost audience, particularly with FlashForward failing to take up the mantle.

If rumours are to be believed, ABC are considering an Alias reboot that would “borrow some elements of the original series”, only without the original actors and the heavy mythological elements that some fans feel bogged the series down.

While talk of an Alias return did twinge on my heart-strings, it just wouldn’t feel right without JJ. Abrams or a heavy Bad Robot presence to oversee things. It would be like bringing Lost back without Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Or like bringing Lost back, period. And with Abrams busy with numerous projects, including new spy-drama, Undercovers, and Darlton apparently going into hiding after the Lost finale, I’m not sure they’d be active ingredients if this one did get off the ground.

We’ll keep tabs on this rumour to see if it has any legs. In the meantime, check out this Alias (original) preview:

By all means, return the greatest series in TV history to the airwaves. BUT…you must bring the original cast back or it will not be Alias. Have the Rambaldi stuff turn out to be an elaborate hoax financed by Jack’s ultrarich college roommate as an affront to superpatriot Jack. Sloane loses his mind and is put in an insane asylum when he finds out it was not real. Much of season 5 would need to be an hallucination caused by Sydney’s pregnacy poroblems so Nadia and Jack can be alive and return. Jack’s roommate now is financing terrorism and a candidate for President of the US. And off we go.
