Utopia‘s six-episode first series represents one of the most compelling bits of television to emerge on the UK’s Channel 4 in recent times, and it’s no exaggeration to call it one of the breakout serials of the fledgling year so far.
While the first series/season resolved many of the questions it raised, it also left room for further continuation, leaving fans with perhaps the biggest question of all – will there be a second series?
Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, who played Ian in the conspiracy thriller, believes there could be a Utopia Series 2, though he’s unsure whether it would be best suited for ongoing continuation, citing the slight lack of resolution at the end of Series 1 as being a positive. He told Digital Spy:
“I think there is scope for a second series, but I also think that it is self-contained. It really does depend. Sometimes you think things could have carried on or things aren’t resolved, and people can get annoyed by that.
“But some pieces of work don’t have a resolution and they leave you to figure it out, and that’s great. Utopia could carry on, but resolution isn’t always good.”
Utopia is available on DVD and Blu-ray from March 11 (UK).
