Uh-Oh: Terra Nova Will Not Preview In May

Bad news for those eagerly awaiting Terra Nova. FOX have scrapped plans to preview the prehistoric drama in May and will now premiere the series in the fall.

The reason? The production team needing more time on the show’s huge visual effects. Kevin Reilly, FOX entertainment president, said:

“The cutting-edge visual effects used to create the world of Terra Nova, which is of massive scope and scale, require more time to be realized. This aspect of the series is essential, so we are pushing back the special early preview date to give the visual effects team the time needed for their ground-breaking work.”

FOX had originally planned to preview the series across two nights in May, followed by the series launch in the fall.

I’m sure many will use this delay as stick to beat the show with after the rumored budget and production problems, but I’d rather have the visuals and everything else done right instead of seeing something horrible crawl from the hatched egg. That being said, it’s interesting to see how this will impact the show’s promotion. The prospect of building huge buzz with a 2-hour May (ala Glee) is gone, so how will FOX compensate?

It’s disappointing, as we here at Seriable Towers were rather looking forward to getting a glimpse of Terra Nova in May. That said, it’s only the preview that has been put back, and not the actual series.

I guess Falling Skies will be our main summer fill as far as new series go. We’ll keep you up to date with Terra Nova though – I imagine it will still be one of our most featured series over the coming months, simply because it ticks many seriable boxes (well, aside from the delay, and stuff).
