Twin Peaks fans will soon get a chance to rediscover, or discover for the first time, the tie-in book that is ‘The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer‘ as it has been re-released this week.
The book, which is written by David Lynch’s daughter Jennifer, first appeared in 1990 and made number four on the New York Times bestseller list while the series was at the height of its popularity.
The diary, which is prominently featured in the series, begins on Laura’s 12th birthday and follows the events of her life that will eventually lead to her death. Recounting experiences such as her first period, sexual abuse and cocaine addiction, it remained true to the dark tone of the series, some book stores even refused to stock it due to its graphic content on its first release.
For those who already own the book, the latest edition comes with a new foreword by David Lynch and Mark Frost which should make it essential reading for Peaks Freaks. Purists might complain that the cover art on the US version doesn’t look anything like the actual diary in the show, even less than the original version, and the UK edition looks more different still. For the first time the book will be available for e-readers as well and can be ordered now from Amazon US
and UK
.
