TNT has released a brand new preview for their high-concept alien invasion series, Falling Skies.
The preview gently eases us into the show’s premise, explaining the invasion through the perspective of children – one child in particular who is a member of a ‘Hero Family’. We then get thrown into the heart of the action with our protagonists and a ragtag band of resistance fighters, as they try to stave off the aliens while looking for supplies.
We get a good look at the alien skitters and their brutal methods of dealing with pesky humans. What struck me, though, was the look and feel of the show. It’s more ‘realistic’ and edgy than, say, V.
In terms of current Seriable shows I think The Walking Dead is a fair comparison, though Falling Skies has a more sci-fi tint to it. It remains to be seen whether they can maintain what seems like a fairly high level of production for the entire season.
Another aspect that struck me was the aliens technology. We’ve been told that it’s advanced, and they weren’t kidding. It’s not just the effect of their mad-tech, it’s the digitized sounds they make – all adding to a great sense of atmosphere.

Wow! Very gripping indeed. If the producers maintain the high standard suggested in this preview, then they should have a winner on their hands.
It’s great seeing Noah Wyle in such a strong role. I loved his work in ER and I think I’m going to enjoy his new character just as much in Falling Skies.
