The Walking Dead‘s Lennie James has confirmed that talks have taken place for his potential return the AMC zombie series.
James featured in The Walking Dead back in 2010. He plays Morgan, a survivor of the zombie apocalypse, who along with his son Duane crossed paths with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) before parting ways at the end of the pilot.
Morgan was referenced in Season 2 of the series when Rick sent out a radio message for him and Duane, suggesting that the show is keen to have him back at some point.
Speaking to Digital Spy about the possibility of his character returning to the series, James said:
“It remains a possibility I could return. The character I played is away for a long time, so it’s kind of up to them whether I stay away or if I come back.”
He confirms that there have been talks for him to return:
“There have been a few back and forth conversations and they check up on me every now and then. I had a fantastic time working on the pilot with Andy Lincoln and especially Frank Darabont. He’s somebody that I’d directorially always wanted to work with and I’m glad I got the opportunity.
James says he could return to The Walking Dead per availability.
In the meantime, Walking Dead fans have plenty of new and returning faces to get excited about for Season 3. Not only will Michonne* (Danai Gurira) and the Governor (David Morrissey) enter the fray, but a certain Merle Dixon is also back to lend a hand in the third chapter.
*Technically, Michonne arrived at the end of Season 2 – but she was played by an uncredited actress.
