Casting information for the 7th episode of ABC‘s The River, “The Experiment,” has come to light, offering insight into Kurt’s (Thomas Kretschmann) backstory and motivation for joining the Emmet Cole rescue party.

The following character Intel introduces Kurt’s secret fiancee, Mina, who has gone missing in the Boiuna. There’s also a couple of other character introductions:

[MINA] (Lili Bordán) Female, MUST SPEAK AND BE ABLE TO AUDITION IN GERMAN. Mid 30s, sexy, beautiful, has a great, natural body, lovely, adventurous, smart, tough, and heart-breaking. Mina is Kurt’s (Thomas Kretschmann) secret fiancee. She is the security chief for a group of doctors who ventured into the Boiuna (prior to our group) never to return. She and the researchers were in the jungle searching for a cure to disease and performing experiments on animals…and each other. The human reaction to said experiments is like nothing they could have expected, leaving them suffering from psychosis, blisters on the skin, recessed gums, sensitivity to light and a tendency towards cannibalism. Mina is seen both before her trip in a romantic bedroom scene where Kurt proposes and after she turns into something terrifying.

[CHIEF SURGEON] (Paul Edney) Male, Late 30s to Late 40s. He is part of the team that has come to South America in search of a cure for all diseases. He is seen dissecting a dead tribesman and later working in a lab until he is exposed to a mysterious virus that turns him into a monster along with the rest of his party.

[MALE CUSTOMER] Mid to late 30s. An outdoorsy type who is seen in a flashback buying snowboarding equipment from Lena (Eloise Mumford) in Boulder, CO. He is shocked to find her working at an R.E.I. type store and tells her that he is a huge fan of the show, and how sad he is about Dr. Cole.

[STORE CLERK] 20s, Female, Athletic and outdoorsy, she works at an R.E.I. type sport supply store in Boulder, CO. Seen in flashback, Lena (Eloise Mumford)’s co-worker calls for help when Lena collapses in some sort of mysterious seizure.

Kurt definitely seems to know more than he’s letting on, what with his secret communications with the ‘outside world’ about “the Source” and putting Emmet down. This casting call helps explain his motivations. It should be interesting to see what Lili Bordán brings to the Mina role.
