Michelle Forbes is a lock for the second season of AMC‘s rain-soaked serial, The Killing. While two new characters will join the mystery.

The EMMY-nominated actress has been confirmed as regular for the show’s upcoming second season, so Mitch will be around when her daughter Rosie’s killer is revealed.

Series creator Veena Sud has also reiterated the plan for the second season: wrap up the Rosie case (which had a vocal section of the show’s fanbase up in arms when the killer wasn’t revealed at the end of last season), and lead into a new case of serialized proportions:

“We will solve the investigation of who murdered Rosie Larsen — all will be revealed — and there will also be a second case that emerges.”

TV Line also has the scoop on two new characters set to join fray:

On the cop shop side of things, viewers will meet Lt. Carlson, a clean-cut, well-dressed lawman in his 50s who tends to keep tabs on which way the political winds are blowing.

Another recurring player to be introduced is Alexi, a 19-year-old Polish-American veteran of the foster system who, with his myriad piercings and tattoos, is described as a “scary looking,” “dark” and “frightening teen who can turn on a dime emotionally.” Alexi is a “bad boy” who proves “attractive to teen girls looking for an adventure” — meaning he could fold into the Rosie Larsen mystery, or perhaps play a role in Season 2′s new case.

I actually really liked how the season ended. I expected closure on the story and was pleasantly surprised with the cliffhanger! Has me biting my nails, granted, the second season can’t come soon enough! I’m very excited for the second season, I loved everything about season 1! The acting is sublime and the characters are great. And it being set in Seattle makes for an unconventional scenario, very grey, rainy and gloomy which matches the mood of the show perfectly.
