TERRA NOVA: Second Season An ‘Exciting’ Bet To Take Say FOX

A second season of Terra Nova now seems even more likely following the comments of FOX Entertainment president Kevin Reilly at today’s TCA.

On the chance of a second season, Reilly said:

“It was an exciting bet to take. And it’s proven it was worthwhile. It’s the second highest rated [freshman] drama. We made money on it. The audience enjoyed it, they had amble opportunity to reject it and they didn’t. There’s a show there to bring back, there’s an audience to access. There were a lot of chefs in the kitchen. The show was hunting for itself creatively through the season. Creatively it was hunting. I loved some of the episodes.”

Hate to break it to you Kevin Reilly: I rejected Terra Nova. It was a half season “serial”, that burned through episodes with little to no character development. Episodes just languished on my DVR after about the 4 or 5th episode. A major component that Terra Nova had going for it, that other network ‘Seriable’ shows don’t normally have the good fortune to have, is a nearly uninterrupted run. I think there may have been only 1 hiatus, and it was 1 week.

I Adore Terra Nova, FOX needs to stay away from this terrible band wagon of teen vampire flicks that are in production and stick with the shows that work hard to create an original storyline, screen play and overall series. As I’ve said on previous updates on Terra Nova, I wasn’t expecting much from this show but after it taking 3 episodes in a row to get me truly hooked I can see why most people were hesitant to give it a chance from the premier. I have to admit though I am completely confused by FOX’s tactics when handling their shows, on one hand we have their entertainment president explaining about how important the audience is, the ratings and the overall profit are for their shows. But my question is why did they axe Lie to Me? the ratings, views and profit were through the roof yet it was cancelled for after the third season without any reason. I guess they just want to see what Terra Nova can bring to the table, I hope there will be a second season but based on that, I can’t see Terra Nova being a long lasting show.
