Today I learned that all is not what is seems with Fringe. The next series of Doctor Who looks set to change things up further. And Sherlock has me ever so slightly worried for the first time (although my Sherlock reserves still runneth over).

This post contains mild spoilers for all three shows mentioned above, so be warned.

It had pretty much been confirmed by producer Sue Vertue and co-creator Steven Moffat, but the BBC themselves have today confirmed that their hit Sherlock Holmes adaptation will be back with more sleuthing next year.

The detective and his able assistant, John Watson, will be back for 3 (presumably 90 minute long) episodes in 2011, with the co-creators Moffat and Mark Gatiss cryptically hinting that the pair will encounter new, possibly four-legged, enemies. They also suggest that next year’s episodes will get underneath the detective’s ice-cold veneer. Is love on the cards? Will Sherlock take a fall? How will Moriarty play into things? Interesting.

I don’t think I’m overstating it by saying that the BBC’s modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes has been one of the television highlights of the year so far. It’s been a real treat, one might say. As the series ended on Sunday evening, with Holmes and Watson in an impossible situation, I found myself uttering the words “more please!”. At least, that’s the clean version.

After the critical and ratings success of the series, it would seem nonsensical for the BBC and the series creators not to ride the wave and produce more episodes. Right? Thankfully they agree and it’s now official – there will be more episodes of Sherlock!

I’ve had a peek at the episode description for tonight’s ‘finale’ titled, “The Great Game”, and it leaves me pondering one question – Will Sherlock finally meet his match? There are also promotional photos for tonight’s episode and an interview co-creator Mark Gatiss.

So without further ado, head past the jump to get your pre-episode fix.

One of the most inspired aspects of last Sunday’s excellent adaptation of Sherlock Holmes was the direction. It was modern, fun and perhaps most importantly, it supported the overall narrative.

In an interview with Den of Geek, co-creator Steven Moffat gave his opinion on the “playfulness” of director Paul McGuigan’s visuals, as well as the performance of Martin Freeman as Doctor Watson.

So you might have guessed that I really loved the first part of the Beeb’s Sherlock adaptation? Just a bit, maybe?

Well, keeping on the topic of Sherlock, it appears that lead man Benedict Cumberbatch was offered the role of Doctor Who, but turned it down.

Don’t you just love it when a show takes you by the scruff of the neck and gives you much more than you ever thought possible? Maybe it’s just me then. But after watching “A Study In Pink” – the first part of the BBC’s Sherlock, I was blown away by just how good it was.

Everyone knows about Sherlock Holmes – one of the fiction’s great detectives – but not many know Sherlock Holmes quite like how he’s portrayed in the new BBC series. They’ve updated a classic and made it into one of the most riveting shows I’ve seen in a while. (not counting my Doctor Who catch-up, which is becoming highly – and worryingly – addictive).

Below the jump are just 6 of the things I loved about Sherlock.
