New Supernatural co-showrunner Jeremy Carver plans to make the long-running CW series ‘less complicated’.
Carver, who initially worked on the series as a writer during Seasons 3-5, believes Supernatural’s mythology has become somewhat difficult to follow. Referring to Dick Roman’s attempts to initiate a Leviathan takeover of the human population, he told TV Line:
“The one thing that struck me [while] watching Season 7 was I felt like the show got a little bit buried under its mythology. It became a little hard to tell exactly what was going on at times. The longtime fans all deserve intricate plot, but it felt a little burdensome.”

Carver hopes to entice new viewers to the show while also satiating veteran fans by “resetting the mythology”:
“[We could start Season 8 with] a flashback that lifelong fans or early fans will hopefully appreciate the magnitude of, but new fans can also grasp onto. Resetting our mythology was one idea that I tried to bring into [the show].”
It’s also been reported that both Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have renewed their contracts for two more years, taking them to Seasons 9 and 10, should all go well.
Season premieres Wednesday, October 3 on the CW.
