  • Serialized shows that do not meet our quality standards will, unfortunately, not be considered for the SHOL.
  • The serialized TV show with the most votes by the end of voting, will be inducted into the SHOL.

I’m a little bit disappointed that you didn’t include some sort of youtube video spotlight/recap of each of the shows this time. Considering I haven’t watched many of these shows (none of these ones, actually) I found it interesting to see those different videos featuring each of the nominated shows. I know I could just go and search for videos myself, but it was so convenient when they were here in the post… Any chance I could convince you to change your mind and pick out some videos to include?

I feel like a traitor having to pick between some favourites each time the vote takes place. This time is no exception.

-I would rule out “Carnivale” solely on the basis of not knowing anything about it.
-”Smallville” is one that I’ve watched very little of, although I consumed a lot of “Superman” comics as a kid.
-”Jericho” was a good show that was gone much too soon, but I just don’t think that the equivalent of 1.25 seasons is enough track record to warrant SHOL status for any show
-I’ve watched “Chuck” wire to wire and will miss the Nerd Herd when they’re gone, but there’s no way I can vote Agent Bartowski into the Hall before I see “Alias” rightfully enshrined.

So, for me, this vote comes down to DW or “Angel”. It wasn’t easy, but, as a great fan of the Buffyverse, I chose “Angel” this time, although DW is very deserving and I suspect it will win here. If I can help to propel “Angel” into runner-up status, maybe its competition will be less daunting when it appears on a future ballot.

I am voting for DW this time because of it’s amazing staying power. This is a show that started in …. what, the 60s? On British TV. British TV, in the time, and the 70s, and the 80s, was notorious with giving practically a negative budget to sci-fi shows! Still, DW persevered. It was aimed at kids, but as it went along it morphed, it grew. It became less a kind of edutainment and more a thrilling show. It became added scares for the kids. And they kept watching. Their parents kept watching. Decade after decade, change after change. Through periods of face-palm cheesiness or cheapness on through greater majority of moments where the storytelling kept you enthralled.
The theme song itself make this a SHOL show-in. It was first created when electronic music was in it’s infancy. It creates this amazing mood, even now. The version of the theme I heard was with Tom Baker on PBS here in the States. Watching the end credits running through a silver tunnel with that theme playing creeped me out! But I wanted to watch it when it came on again!
Now it’s started up again. And the present seasons have gone through their own metamorphosis. The story-telling in many of the shows runs so amazing you get sucked right in. They have the advantage of either a bigger budget and/or more for their money. But, the story-telling come through. It remembers it’s past and keeps the story seraibly running through. I suppose since it stretches so far back in time, it may be seen by some as not as seriable as it could be. Perhaps. And that would be the only thing to keep it from being inducted … how seriable you believe it is.
Thanks for reading my improv. writing here.
