So you might have guessed that I really loved the first part of the Beeb’s Sherlock adaptation? Just a bit, maybe?
Well, keeping on the topic of Sherlock, it appears that lead man Benedict Cumberbatch was offered the role of Doctor Who, but turned it down.
Cumberbatch revealed that he was offered the chance to replace David Tennant as the Doctor but declined the role because he didn’t want to be part of such a large franchise.
As we know, Matt Smith eventually took up the reigns as the Doctor, and has done a fantastic job so far.
Cumberbatch gave more insight into his reasoning:
‘David and I talked about it but I thought it would have to be radically different. And anyway, I didn’t really like the whole package – being on school lunch boxes.’
While I can kinda see his point, it must have been a gamble to turn down such a career-making role. Then again, things haven’t exactly worked out too badly for him, have they.
