Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have confirmed that Sherlock will return for a third series.
Following the conclusion of the final episode of Series 2, Moffat and Gatiss both took to twitter to confirm the show would be back for a third series:
Moffat tweeted:
“#sherlock Yes of course there’s going to be a third series – it was commissioned at the same time as the second. Gotcha!”.
While Gatiss wrote:
“Gotcha! And of course there’ll be a third series! It was commissioned at the same time as series two!!”
SPOILER ALERT — SERIES 2 FINALE
The final episode of series 2 saw Sherlock ‘defeat’ Moriarty, save his friends and escape death, despite — seemingly — falling to his demise. The third series should shed light on how Sherlock achieved his remarkable feat and bring the crime-solving duo back together again for another round of mysteries. In the meantime, let the speculation begin.
