Serial Bites: Mad Men Finale Ratings High, FlashForward Alum In Horror Story Talks

On today’s bite-sized serial menu, news and tidbits from the worlds of Mad Men, True Blood, American Horror Story, Sons Of Anarchy, Homeland and Dexter.

  • Mad Men‘s fifth season finale drew 2.7 million viewers Sunday night, making it the most-watched season-ender ever for the AMC drama. Per Deadline, the total was up 11% compared with the fourth season’s final episode. Elsewhere, HBO’s True Blood drew 6.3 million viewers across two fifth season premiere airings — down slightly from last year (by 3%) but was mostly in line with previous season premieres.
  • Joseph Fiennes is in talks to join the second season of FX’s American Horror Story. The FlashForward actor would play Jessica Lange’s boss, the head of the institution for the criminally insane, and will also be the object of her attraction; the pair “have a May/December romance”. His character is described as “tortured”. [EW]
  • Ashley Tisdale will join the fifth season of Sons of Anarchy for a two-episode arc, playing an escort named Emma Jean. [EW]
  • Valerie Cruz (Dexter, True Blood, Alphas) joins the cast of Homeland Season 2 as Major Joy Mendez. In what’s described as guest star stint that could become a recurring role, Mendez is a military intelligence officer who goes with Carrie (Claire Danes) on a sensitive mission in Beirut. [EW]
  • Matt Gerald (Avatar, The Shield) joins the seventh season of Showtime’s Dexter. He’ll play a blue-collar violent criminal in a multi-episode arc. [EW]
