Rick McCallum Reveals STAR WARS Live-Action Title; Talks Premise & Challenges

While we wont see it on our screens for a while yet, the live action Star Wars TV show now has a title – and it’s called..

Star Wars: Underworld. Albeit, this is a “working title”.

IGN caught up with producer and George Lucas wing-man Rick McCallum, who spoke about the path the series will take, both in terms of its story and the challenge of delivering the show via the right platform.

Here’s what he said on the Underworld premise:

“They take place between Episode III and Episode IV, that 20-year period when Luke is growing up. It’s not about Luke, but it’s about that period when the Empire is trying to take things [over].”

As we know, Lucas and Co. are sitting on over 50 one-hour scripts, each one “bigger than any of the prequels were…They’re complex, they’re dark, they’re adult.”

But McCallum says each episode will have to fly under a $5 million budget. Until technology matures, and they’re able to deliver the show in a way that’s economical and retains creative control, the stockpile of scripts will remain on ice. Check the interview in the player below:
