Warning: the following article contains a Season 2 spoiler that may or may not be foreshadowed in the new Orphan Black poster. Continue at your own discretion, but be warned.
Does Orphan Black‘s moody Season 2 poster hint at a revival of a presumed-dead character?
As pointed out in BuzzFeed‘s excellent analysis of the poster, Kira’s drawing features her mom Sarah, aunties Alison and Cosima, and the dearly departed and deranged Helena. Click to go big:
We know that Kira is gifted in some shape or form, and that she shared an intense bond with Helena prior to her apparent death in Season 1, but does the above clue foreshadow the resurrection of Helena – or speak to a larger theme?
TVGuide adds fuel to the fire, revealing that a presumed-dead character will be back in Season 2, though they stop short of specifying who that will be.
Another thing that caught our eye whilst observing the poster – aside from the interesting body language and Dr. Leekie seemingly eying Alison – is the fish symbol on new character Henrik Johanssen’s belt. It resembles the one on Helena’s knife from Season 1, representing fecundity — reproduction.
Per BBC America, Johanssen’s character is described thusly:
A mercurial modern-day cowboy, is one of the shadowy religious extremists ideologically opposed to the clones. But Johanssen is a new breed of zealot. He leads a flock of followers that have broken away from the old world Prolethean brotherhood. Under his messianic vision, the age old divide between science and religion has merged, forming a new and formidable threat.
