New intel for both Once Upon A Time and its Wonderland spinoff has emerged.
Once Upon A Time
Speaking to TV Line, co-creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis teased some of the backstory arcs that will be further served via flashbacks during Season 3.
Episode 2, “Lost Girl“, will be Snow/Charming-centric and focus on the time between Snow’s sleeping curse awakening and their encounter with Regina on the battlefield. “How did the queen react to that? And who first told her?” Horowitz ponders.
As previously speculated, Episode 3, “Quite a Common Fairy,” will delve into Tinker Bell’s origins and involve The Blue Fairy of Contrivance (but not Amy Acker’s Nova) and address the all-important question: “What makes a fairy?”
A new piece of Rumples’ backstory is also on the menu, as is the tale of how Hook earned his pirate stripes and the previously-mentioned Episode 6, titled “Ariel,” for which the show is currently casting Prince Eric, who will not be an existing character.
Once Upon A Time In Wonderland
Over in Wonderland, the spinoff is casting the role of Beowulf‘s Grendel, who will be played by an actor in prosthetics. The cannibalistic Grendel is described as a “large, warted, ogre-like beast,” who will pose a mortal threat to the genie-seeking Alice and Knave.
As is often the Once way, expect a spin on things. Says Horowitz of the beast’s encounter with Alice: “It’s a wink-and-a-nod, as opposed to a real deep-dive into Beowulf.”
