- This episode is about as character-centric as a normally structured episode can get. There’s no Previously On… segment, and there’s only four scenes not featuring or concerning Hugo Reyes.
- This is one of only two episodes ending with a flashback scene – the other one being Ab Aeterno. Interestingly, neither of the flashback scenes are from the perspective of the episode’s central character. Dave ends with a Libby flashback, while Ab Aeterno ends with a Man In Black flashback (instead of Richard).
- Leonard Simms returns, repeating the Numbers as usual. In this episode, he clearly says the number “eight” louder than the others. This number just happens to be Hurley’s Candidate number.
- Speaking of Numbers: Dr. Brooks mentioned there were 23 people on the collapsed deck, while it was built to hold 8. The same could be said for the Island. When the Island collapsed in The End, 23 was the leading number (Jack), but as it turned out, the lucky number was always meant to be 8 (Hurley).
