Riots on the streets of London has cut short filming of the BBC‘s second season of Sherlock today.

Co-creator Mark Gatiss tweeted his disbelief:

“This is a new one on me. Scene incomplete owing to approaching looters. Unbelievable times.”

It was recently confirmed that the second season of Sherlock has been pushed back to 2012 due to general filming delays.

That makes me so mad that I just want to burn a department store.

People have died in these riots. I find your comment childish and offensive, irrespective of intent.

Lighten up. He’s not condoning the actions for gods sake! There’s no point getting overly touchy about the subject! Offensive? How COULD that offend you… Get over yourself.

I agree with letsbereal. Underseer – you’re far to easily offended. If someone wants to make light about a subject than that is his decision entirely. If you want to be offended then fine be offended but the say it’s ‘disgusting’ ? I think you have seriously misplaced your anger here! I live in London and was affected by the rioting but i still don’t mind people making jokes about it. As letsbereal aptly put it, “Get over yourself.”

Letsbereal & Jameslean: I wonder, would you tell the families of those who died in these riots to ‘get over themselves’? Or do you only care if it affects you directly?

“He’s not condoning the actions for gods sake!”

How would you know that? Are you this person posting under a different name, perhaps, because otherwise I don’t see how you can.

What I do know, is that people who have suffered loss in this crisis would not be amused by this. Apparently this is incomprehensible to you.

And apparently neither of you couldn’t be bothered to read my comment properly either, I didn’t say this person was condoning the actions – I said “irrespective of intent”. Let me spell it out for you then: what is evident in that remark is not so much condoning as insensitivity.

As long as it wasn’t a member of *your* family that was killed, hmm?

Why don’t you pop in on the family business that was on the same property for five generations, to see it burned down by thugs last week, and see how funny “That makes me so mad that I just want to burn a department store” is to them. Say to them: “How COULD that offend you?”

“I think you have seriously misplaced your anger here”. No, I think you’ve seriously misplaced your compassion and empathy. Stop trying to defend the indefensible.

“i still don’t mind people making jokes about it” Have you lost a loved one in these riots? No? Then your comment is meaningless. I haven’t lost anyone either, but that doesn’t mean I’m free to make jokes about it.

I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree; some think murder and the loss of livelihoods and property are funny, as long as it isn’t happening to them – I don’t.

Underseer, you’re welcome to object to me ridiculing the mindset of lawless rioters. That’s your call.

Are you equally offended by the army of talented cartoonists who stay up late at night trying to effectively illustrate the absurdity of tragic events such as this? Who knew people could be so callous?

What about the cartoons Disney once made featuring Daffy Duck bashing Hitler over the head? Shouldn’t Disney have been ashamed of himself for making light of that whole Hitler-is-evil situation?

How many innocents died in the Muslim cartoon nonsense a few years ago? Would you label the thinly veiled outrage expressed in these cartoon responses to those riots childish and offensive or merely indefensible? Or, could the answer lie somewhere in between?

I’ll tell you what I find childish and offensive. It’s the selfish young parasites in their hoodies and masks, pouring into the streets of London and other cities every night, stealing running shoes and electronics.

Now, let’s give Roco back his blog before he calls security and has us all tossed. And, try not to worry about my moral compass. I know it’s around here somewhere.

So now you’re a socially aware satirist, comparing your riveting commentary to Disney’s? Whoa.

Your comparisons are in any event spurious, since most are clearly attacking wrongdoers. You’re only claiming to do the same after the fact.

Disney attacking Hitler is not the same thing, and I think you know it.

And the Muslim cartoons? Really? Not exactly helping your case there, to put it mildly.

You talk about giving ‘Roco back his blog’ after making an inflammatory remark about the Muslim cartoon reaction? Say what?

Those of Islamic faith were deeply offended by what you refer to as the ‘Muslim cartoon nonsense’ – that is, nonsense in your humble and clearly balanced opinion. Wow, it just keeps on coming, doesn’t it?

But thank you for proving my point about making ill considered remarks.

On that note, I’ve learned a relative of mine was injured in these riots. If you can’t grasp why I’d be upset by people making jokes about it, then indeed your moral compass is around here ‘somewhere’.

One thing I do agree with you on: time to drop this circular argument. This not a political blog, and in any case I’ve said all I need to say.

Funny, I just noticed, ‘Letsbereal’ & ‘Jameslean’, posted within 7 minutes of each other, two days after my post. What are the odds? ;)

You would not believe what it has been like here over the last few days and there is not just rioting in London it has now spread to several of our other major cities. Living here is a scary place at the moment.

All the more reason Lindsay, why the comment made above by “Page 48′ is disgusting.

Lives and livelihoods have been shattered in these events, and I question the moral compass of someone who can treat tragedy with such flippancy.

Even if the comment was intended to be ironic or sarcastic, it would still be inexcusable. If you have any compassion you don’t say things like this.

Sorry about the rant Roco, but I have relatives in London suffering under this, so that comment made me see red.
