Think you could be a serialized TV fan but you’re not sure how deep it goes? Our handy How To Know You’re A Serialized TV Fan Guide will help you to figure out just how seriable you are. Take a gander at Part 1 below.
How seriable are you? Find out by seeing which of the following apply to you..
You Prefer Open-Ended Stories..
Screw the ribbon-tied ending, you want the plot and character drama to last more than just an episode.- You PREFER to see stories played out over the course of a season or series.
The serial is your hero. Its open-ended format pushes the main story and connected threads beyond the credits to leave you with beautiful ongoing drama.
You Want To Learn More..
You want to discover more about the characters in your favorite shows.- You’re happy to journey with them through a world (or worlds) that present them with challenges.
The serial is here to save the day. Serials use story arcs to tell progressive stories that allow characters to undergo transformation over the course of a series, rewarding the serial viewer for their dedication.
You Care About Continuity..
You’re a stickler for continuity.- You CARE when a story contradicts plot or character elements established in previous episodes.
The serial’s long-form narrative format places heavy demand on story continuity — details established 20 or 30 episodes ago matter in the ongoing story. While continuity errors are controversial features of many serials, their existence provokes debate and dissection amongst dedicated fans.
You Enjoy Cliffhangers..
You like being shocked at the end of an episode.- You get a THRILL from seeing a main character wind up in a precarious or difficult predicament, or confronted with a huge revelation.
Serialized TV is tailor-made for this most tantalizing of plot devices. Cliffhangers are designed to leave us in suspense at the end of an episode in the hope that we return to see how character/story dilemmas are resolved. They are perfect for serialized fiction as they whet the appetite for the continuation of an evolving story or stories, while letting us know that a storyline will be picked up in the next episode or somewhere down the line.

Do you embrace all of these serialized TV elements? Are you beginning to realize your serial connection?

Yes. I am a Serialized TV Fan, and I am proud of it.
Great points Roco. When a show is good, the payoff is great, even fantastic.
Keeps me coming back week after week, year after year.

Yep, all of these apply to me, including a love for easter eggs. My stepdad, on the other hand, couldn’t care less about all of this. A common argument we have revolves around what makes a good cliff hanger. This should be made into some sort of personality test.

All of these apply to me and I have to say I love the use of The Killing picture, until now I’ve felt like I was the only person alive who actually liked the finale cliffhanger.
