Fringe Season 3 Sneak Peek

Fox has released a sneak peek of the season 3 premiere, airing September 23rd.

The preview is an extended version of the therapy (aka ‘interrogation’) clip from the first trailer that aired a few weeks ago, and shows Walternate attempting to blur Olivia’s reality.

It’s a really interesting clip. At one point it looks as though Olivia is literally hanging on to reality as her hand flinches, feeling for the reassurance of the chair arm. Is Olivia instinctively responding to “so you can get your life back?”, or is she adjusting her bearings just in case she has to fight her way out of that room?

I also find it interesting that the therapist is called Dr. Anderson. A reference to The Matrix?

Although this is only a fleeting glimpse at the episode, I really enjoy the air of unease and duplicity that Gabrielle Rose brings to the scene. It looks like an excellent piece of casting if this clip is anything to go by.

One final point of interest (I think I’ll save some thoughts back for the actual episode), Walternate makes for a creepy observer. As suspected, it seems as though he’s trying to not only break Olivia, but extract information from her weakened mind. What sort of advantage does he hope to gain? And why is Olivia playing along – isn’t she trained for interrogations? It must surely cross her mind to not say anything at all. That said, we don’t know how much time has passed since the finale. She might be at the point where she thinks she’s better off talking in order to glean her own opening.
