Ah, the smell of a press release for an episode of Fringe means that the new season is not far away. Head past the jump to read the official outline for the episode, along with the promotional photos and trailer.

Fringe 3.01 “Olivia” Press Release

A THRILLING NEW CHAPTER BEGINS ON THE SEASON PREMIERE OF “FRINGE” THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, ON FOX

After the extraordinary turn of events that shockingly left an imprisoned Olivia “over there,” she fights to find her way home. Meanwhile, Peter and Walter try to move on with their lives unknowingly alongside alternate Olivia in the “Olivia” season premiere episode of FRINGE airing Thursday, Sept. 23 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (FR-3.01) (TV-14 L, V)

Cast: Anna Torv as Olivia Dunham; Joshua Jackson as Peter Bishop; John Noble as Walter Bishop; Lance Reddick as Phillip Broyles; Blair Brown as Nina Sharp; Jasika Nicole as Astrid Farnsworth

Guest Cast: Andre Royo as Henry; Amy Madigan as Marilyn

Looks like we’ll be meeting Altlivia’s mother (played by Amy Madigan) in this one – and we have her name. Marilyn. Interesting.

The outline also implies that we’ll be spending some time with Walter, Peter and Altlivia on the other side. This would contradict earlier suggestions that the first half of the season would see the story unfold in one universe per episode.

Perhaps they just put that part in to stop people from freaking out. Or maybe it’s just to give us a sense that somewhere, on the other side of the multiverse, the rest of the team are going about their business blissfully unaware that they have a mole in their ranks. Or perhaps we will get a glimpse into the other side, maybe right at the beginning or end of the episode?

Promotional Photos for 3.01 “Olivia”

Psychiatrist tries to ‘break’ Olivia. Or perhaps she generally believes that Olivia is crazy (as per the promo further down the page) and wants to help her?

It’s strange seeing Olivia in all white. And her hair dye needs a touch-up.
Coming to take Olivia back to her cell?

Olivia doesn’t remain captured for too long (although we don’t know the time-frame between this episode and the season 2 finale).

Is that burns-victim Lincoln Lee?

Andre Royo to the rescue.

The drop-off.
