Jasika Nicole has teased up the fifth and final season of Fringe in a new interview.
As we know, last season’s “Letters Of Transit” saw Etta and Simon rescue most of the Fringe Team from amber. There have been hints that their predicament was self-imposed, possibly a stratagem to take down the Observers once Etta was old enough to use her Cortexiphan-fueled abilities. However, speaking to TV Guide Magazine, Nicole suggests that their amber motivation may remain a mystery. She said:
“You’re not going to know exactly what happened to get them so that they’re in amber and in the future.”
Of course, it’s already been said that various narrative devices such as found footage will be used to fill in the 20 year gap leading up to 2036, and I imagine the story will ‘revisit’ the amber event at some point given the significance of this plot device, particularly with William Bell ever so conspicuous by his presence.
Nicole goes on to reiterate the premise of the final 13 episodes, in which the Fringe team operate in secrecy in order to “take down the Observers” and to “get the world back into the power of the people.”
As for how the show will end, Nicole has her own theory:
“My theory is that they’re going to fix everything in the future and then they’re going to go back and relive those 20 years”.
Fringe Season 5 premieres Friday, Sept. 28 on Fox
