First he was LOST, soon he’ll be on the Fringe. Henry Ian Cusick is heading to the FOX sci-fi serial this spring.

Cusick, who portrayed Desmond ‘for love’ Hume on the hit island serial, will play an alternate universe agent tasked with a Fringe case in this season’s 19th episode. Could this be one of the roles we told you about earlier this week?:

Fringe is looking for an alternate universe male Fringe Division agent in his late 30s/early 40s, described a strong, confidant leader, for a one episode spot.

Given the timing, it certainly seems possible. Cusick always brought an intensity to LOST that made his character very believable. His most memorable episode is probably “The Constant,” an episode that dealt with concepts not too far removed from those that Fringe is exploring. It’s not necessary for his casting, but one wonders whether Episode 19 will involve time-loops as part of its conceit?

We do know that the episode will be directed by Akiva Goldsman, who helmed such classics as Bad Dreams and Over There. Cusick will follow Jorge Garcia in appearing on the JJ. Abrams-produced LOST and Fringe.

Henry Ian Cusick has a huge fanbase, which could turn into a win-win situation for Fringe and the ratings.
