It seems Frank Darabont has put The Walking Dead ‘could have beens’ firmly behind him. TNT has ordered L.A. Noir — a new drama series from Darabont and The Social Network producer Michael De Luca and Elliot Webb.
L.A. Noir is based off John Buntin’s book (and not to be mistaken for the 2011 video game L.A. Noire) with Darabont set to write and direct the pilot. He says:
“Noir is a passion of mine, so I feel blessed to delve into a project that speaks in the hardboiled vernacular. John Buntin’s superb book, though non-fiction, is our touchstone and inspiration for the stories we’ll be telling, weaving fiction throughout the facts and facts throughout the fiction.”
L.A. Noir, set in the 1940s and ’50s, tells the true story of the beef between the Los Angeles Police Department and the crimeworld, led by mobman and former boxer Mickey Cohen.
