In case you were wondering what Joseph Fiennes was doing now that FlashForward is canceled..
Yep, that’s him with the bald head. He’s playing the wizard Merlin in the upcoming Starz TV series, Camelot. Click past the jump for the full image and some insight into the “duality” that Fiennes hopes to bring to his Merlin portrayal.

Quite the transformation isn’t it. Speaking to irishcentral, Fiennes explained that his Merlin isn’t your ordinary Merlin:
“He is more of a warrior monk and less of a Zen Obi-Wan Gandalf. I think there’s a duality with Merlin … he fights fire with fire; he drives out a nail with another nail. He doesn’t turn the other cheek. I don’t think Merlin is a villain, but he is far from driven snow. I think he is full of Machiavellian machinations. There’s an element of Willy Wonka, Donald Rumsfeld and Obi-Wan to him.”
I know it’s not the same thing, but it will be interesting to see if Fiennes can offer as fresh a take on Merlin as Benedict Cumberbatch did with Sherlock Holmes.

Camelot is expected to premiere on Starz early 2011.
