FALLING SKIES: Season 3 Confirmed!

This is one particular invasion we saw coming a mile off — as expected, Falling Skies has been renewed for a third season.

TNT has picked up the alien invasion serial for a 10-episode third season following strong ratings, Deadline report. The Noah Wyle-starrer ended last year as basic cable’s top new series of 2011 and currently ranks as basic cable’s #1 summer drama in the coveted adults 18-49 demo.

Falling Skies Season 3 is slated to invade 2013.

Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TNT, said of the renewal:

“Falling Skies is television storytelling at its very best, a powerful drama that’s told on both an epic scale and on a deeply personal level. With all the memorable and surprising moments taking place during the second season of Falling Skies, we can’t wait to see what DreamWorks Television and Falling Skies’ terrific production team and cast members have in store for season three.”

We’re currently mid-way through the second season, so it must be pleasing for the producers to be able to plan for the third chapter — no doubt they have some idea of where they want to take the story. While the renewal wont change the outcome of Season 2 (filming has long since wrapped), it’s likely that the ‘conclusion’ to this season will leave room for story progression into the now confirmed third season.

Somehow I don’t think Tom will be boarding an alien mother ship this time round..but stranger things have happened.

This is great news for Falling Skies fans and nice to see a show I enjoy last longer than one season. :)

fantastic news. So many great shows get cancelled way too early and some mundane average shows churn on season after season. I really need my cheese fix I just hope they continue to give us great dialogue and amazing character development and perhaps bring in another couple of kids to fight on the front line.
