Fall Season Preview: Who Is Nikita?

That is the question. Is she our next serialized hero, or just an echo of other failed attempts at realizing kick-ass female warriors?

With the new series only a couple of days away, CW have released a barrel of preview videos that provide insight into Nikita and some of the other characters we’ll be getting to know.

As far as I can tell from these clips, the action and visuals look pretty good. Better than I imagined they would look when I first heard about the series. Though premiere episodes are usually more glitzy.

The premise doesn’t strike me as being all that original, but it’s certainly interesting enough. In terms of recent comparative works, Nikita threatens to contain shades of Dollhouse. Particularly with the ‘shady organization programming broken souls into puppets without freewill,’ element. It doesn’t look like Nikita will delve into questions of the soul and mind, but if The Event has to fight off comparisons with LOST, then Nikita may well have to prove that it’s not another Dollhouse.

Will you be tuning into the new Nikita series this Thursday, even if it’s just for Maggie Q?

Nikita premieres Thursday, September 9th on CW.

Well, I’ll be watching “Nikita” until she gives me a reason not to. It comes down to spy-lust, I suppose.

Now, today comes word that CBS may develop a show based on Jason Bourne’s “Treadstone” (unfortunately from the creator of CSI). Sooner or later, one of these ass kicking spy shows, that every network is scrambling for, should rise to the top. I reckon the only way to find out which one it will be is to give each of them a tryout.
