Karen Gillan is leaving Doctor Who next year, but how will Amy (and Rory) be written out?

Is Miranda Hart the Doctor’s NEXT companion??

Doctor Who EP Steven Moffat has already confirmed that Amy and Rory Pond will leave Doctor Who in “heartbreaking” fashion in series 7, but details on the nature of their departure are obviously under close wraps. However, speaking on the BBC’s Graham Norton Show, Karen Gillan admitted that her exit has been in the works for a long time:

“I have known for ages that I am leaving and it’s such a massive relief that it is out and I can speak freely about it.”

“I’m back next year for a few episodes but it’s not actually confirmed when I go.”

Asked whether her character could die, Gillan said:

“I don’t know, it could be possible.”

Would anything else really be ‘heartbreaking’? I guess we’ll see.

Oh, Roco, I think we can find our way to heartbreak in epic proportions without having to say “Bye-Bye Pond” in that most final of ways. Hopefully, Moffat won’t actually get around to (gulp!) killing the girl who waited.

So is she back for a full season or only a couple of episodes? It will be interesting how they play this, b/c this version of the Doctor has been all Moffat’s design…and IMO he’s been more connected to Amy and Rory than any of the previous ones. He is her son-in-law!
