The TARDIS will soon be less marital. It’s official – Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill (Amy and Rory Pond) are set to say a ‘heartbreaking’ farewell to Doctor Who in series 7.
Today’s big news was broken by BBC Entertainment news reporter Lizo Mzimba, who tweeted at a London press screening:
“Amy and Rory will leave ‘heartbreakingly’ during next series and The Doctor will get a new companion.
Steven Moffat says plenty of Amy and Rory in next series, but they will leave ‘heartbreakingly’. New companion not yet cast”
The show’s official twitter account has followed up with confirmation, saying:
Steven Moffat teases that the Doctor will soon get a new friend…
The Doctor himself, Matt Smith, added:
“The show will miss the Ponds brilliantly played by Karen & Arthur but the great thing about Doctor Who is its ability to change.”
Moffat also confirmed that River Song will (most likely) be back in series 7:
“And finally for tonight, Steven Moffat comments that he thinks River Song WILL return to
Doctor Who!”
I’ll be sad to see them go, but it makes sense — they came of age in series 6, and TARDIS companions come and go, such is the Doctor’s way. At least we get another series to (hopefully) give them a fitting send-off. I’m interested to see what the storyline will entail.
We’ll keep you updated as this story develops.

Well, now how am I supposed to sleep tonight? Hopefully it’s something brilliant like Rose Tyler’s exit. I’m still tearing up over Rose’s fate.
On Moffat’s other declarations, I don’t like the idea of no 2-parters. I’m just watching “Time of Angels” right now and that set up an awesome pair of back-to-backers. And, what about “The Pandorica Opens” and “The Big Bang”?
There’s more to life than standalones, Mr. Moffat.

I think River should come back because if she doesn’t i will spend the whole of season 7 crying
if she does I’ll spend it all laughing
