Syfy has cancelled Defiance after three seasons, Seriable has learned.
Days after cancelling Dominion, the cabler has also decided not to move forward with a fourth season of Defiance.
The Cancellation Reaper was finally able to snare Defiance due to declining ratings and Syfy’s busy/expensive slate of new dramas, which include The Expanse, Hunter and miniseries Childhood’s End – and returning serials 12 Monkeys, Dark Matter and Killjoys.
The network said of the decision to cancel the sci-fi series:
“Defiance was a truly groundbreaking series, delivering an immersive, cross-platform experience that transcended the television screen in a way that viewers had never seen before. We are incredibly proud of the work of the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers – and especially showrunner Kevin Murphy – who together brought the rich world of Defiance to life over its three-season arc.”
