The CW has picked up Cult, a mystery-drama pilot from veteran sci-fi writer producer Rockne S. O’Bannon produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.
The Set Up: Cult follows an inquisitive, young female production assistant on a madly popular television show called Cult who, after a splattering of disappearances and a seeming murder, joins a journalist blogger in investigating the rabid fans of the series who might be re-creating crimes seen on the program in real life.
If picked up to series Cult is expected to get a limited run 13-episode per season order, which is not as common on broadcast network as it is on cable (although ABC’s LOST employed a similar model in its later seasons). O’Bannon and Schwartz, Savage and Len Goldstein are executive producing for Warner Bros.
Cult complements the CW’s core mix of serialized dramas with young female protagonists (Nikita, et al) and procedural elements.
