Breaking Bad creator and writer Vince Gilligan stresses the importance of the final 16 episodes of the hit AMC serial being ‘honest’.

Gilligan spoke about his plans for the final 16 episodes of Breaking Bad after last season’s dramatic finale, essentially saying that he has hopes of where he’d like it to go, but doesn’t have it completely mapped out.

Here’s a bit more from Gilligan explaining his goals for ending Breaking Bad:

“[It] keeps me awake at night. It gives me nightmares. The closer we get to the final episode, I assume the worse it’ll be. But that’s why we’re ending after 16. You want to go out with fans of the show still being fans.

The best we can do is be disciplined and honest in our storytelling, and not go for the bells and whistles. Let the chips fall where they may.”

Nice “Mr. Chips” reference.

By now, Gilligan and his writing team should be back in the writers’ room in the early stages of plotting out the penultimate season. Gilligan has already suggested that the final 16 episodes will probably be split over two seasons, consisting of eight episodes each.

Naturally, we’ll keep you posted on Breaking Bad Seasons 5 and 6 developments.
