A number of new serialized shows have already received international pickups.
International acquisitions and SVOD distribution continue to play an increasingly important role in the potential survival of serials, increasing the reach and revenue of these shows for their respective studios (and in turn networks) outside of their domestic income streams and ratings metrics.
Good news then for NBC’s Blindspot, The CW’s DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and FOX’s Lucifer, along with ABC seriables Quantico, Oil and The Catch, which have all been scooped up by Canada’s CTV at this week’s LA Screenings, ahead of their 2015-16 season premieres.
CBS’ Limitless also received a strong response from potential suitors, while FOX’s X-Files revival is at the center of a bidding war, per Variety.
While the above seriables aren’t guaranteed second/additional seasons at this early stage, the nature and effectiveness of their intentional deals will have a say in whether they’re ultimately renewed, cancelled – and in the case of the latter, shopped elsewhere.
The 2015-16 season may be several months away, but the battle for serialized survival has already begun. Watch this space…
