NBC has an eye on the future with their drama pilot Beautiful People which has just landed a director in the shape of Stephen Hopkins.

Beautiful People, written by Cougar Town co-executive producer/director/actor Michael McDonald, takes place in the near future in a world where humans co-exist with mechanical androids that look like people but are treated like second-class citizens.

More specifically the story explores the concept of ‘what if’, in a scenario where mechanical humans serve the human population. That begins to change when the automatons start to “awaken”.

McDonald wrote Beautiful People 10 years ago. The drama is set 10 minutes into the future.

I’m interested to find out more but it certainly seems to have an intriguing outline with overarching story potential. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one.

Roco, do you notice any similarities between the look of the Beautiful People android and the android, played by Robin Williams, in the film Bicentennial Man from 1999 ? Eerily similar !!!

Bette, the pic is indeed from Bicentennial Man — we just borrowed for illustration purposes. I did put a note at the bottom but apologies for any confusion!
