BBC Confirm More Sherlock in 2011 with Four-Legged Enemies?

It had pretty much been confirmed by producer Sue Vertue and co-creator Steven Moffat, but the BBC themselves have today confirmed that their hit Sherlock Holmes adaptation will be back with more sleuthing next year.

The detective and his able assistant, John Watson, will be back for 3 (presumably 90 minute long) episodes in 2011, with the co-creators Moffat and Mark Gatiss cryptically hinting that the pair will encounter new, possibly four-legged, enemies. They also suggest that next year’s episodes will get underneath the detective’s ice-cold veneer. Is love on the cards? Will Sherlock take a fall? How will Moriarty play into things? Interesting.

Hunt also confirmed the recommissions of Sherlock Holmes andLuther for BBC One. Following a highly successful launch with over 7.5m viewers watching the first episode in July 2010, Sherlock returns for three new 90-minute episodes in Autumn 2011, while Luther comes back with two, two-hour specials

Hunt says: “Sherlock was the hit of the Summer. Luther the most memorable new detective on the block. I am delighted they will both be returning to BBC One.”

Talking of the Sherlock recommission, co-creators, Mark Gatiss andSteven Moffat, say: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the warmth of response to our new Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and can’t wait to take them on three new adventures next year. There’ll be baffling new puzzles, old friends and new enemies – whether on two, or four legs. And we might well be seeing the cold master of logic and reason unexpectedly falling. But in love? Or over a precipice? Who can tell?

I’m not sure about the four-legged enemies thing, but other than that, this is good news to start the weekend with.

Are you looking forward to another round of Sherlock episodes? What adventures would like to see them tackle?

A four legged foe? Perhaps something will race by in a Blaze of Silver.

I hope they are not going to make some sience fiction of it! But I’m hoping so much that finally someone dares to try what everyone is waiting for: Sherlock Holmes in love?
I’m interesting to see whatever there’s underneath that cold facade. Will Sherlock take it all wrong, struggling with the only thing he can’t deduct? Will his facade break and will love clouding his judgement? Or would John be the one to open up? Both confused, it can’t be hidden from Lestrade that maybe, he will have to deal with Moriarty on his own…
