Syfy might not have plans to revive Battlestar Galactica just yet, but chief Dave Howe believes the classic space opera would hold a similar standing for the network today as Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead do for AMC.
Outlining the network’s ambition to reclaim the serialized sci-fi space with upcoming projects such as Ascension, The Expanse and one-off event Childhood’s End, Howe reflected on the influence and legacy of BSG and what he believes it would be in today’s more seriable-friendly landscape, per THR:
We talk a lot about Battlestar Galactica, which was the smartest, most pro-vocative show on TV before its time.
Six or seven years ago, heavily serialized shows didn’t play, there was no social media and there was very little in the way of nonlinear catch-up. If we had Battlestar Galactica on our air now, it would absolutely be a Breaking Bad, a Walking Dead, a True Blood. The aspiration is, we want to get back in that space.
