ARROW Will Be Edgier & More Bourne-like Than SMALLVILLE

Don’t expect the CW‘s Arrow to bear a close resemblance to the recently departed Smallville — that’s according to the network’s development head, Thom Sherman.

Sherman says Arrow will be more grounded and less comic book-y than Smallville:

“It’s a very provocative and sophisticated and edgy. It’s not as comic book-y as Smallville or other [superhero projects] from other networks.”

Basically, think along the lines of Jason Bourne:

“He doesn’t have any superpowers, he’s a very grounded character like a Jason Bourne — we use the term ‘Rambo. His skill-set is that he’s an archer, but he also have physical strength and prowess. He’s clever and able to devise ways of taking down a bad guy that are unique and fun to watch.”

At least we have a better sense of the tone, but it will be good to know more about the format. They can go serialized with Arrow, but how serialized, if at all, remains to be seen. We’ll keep you posted.
