AMC are developing Thief of Thieves, a new project from The Walking Dead executive producer/writer Robert Kirkman and Chic Eglee. Meanwhile, BBC America will co-produce new British mini-series, The Spies of Warsaw, starring former Time Lord David Tennant. Read on for the details on both projects..
Thief of Thieves
AMC hopes Thief of Thieves can do for them what The Walking Dead has done over the past couple of years. Kirkman says:
“Much like The Walking Dead brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, Thief of Thieves can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals.”
According to Deadline, Thief of Thieves, which Kirkman based on his experience in the writer’s room of The Walking Dead, focuses on master thief Conrad Paulson who, while trying to rebuild a life with his estranged wife and son, vows to walk the straight and narrow, only to discover he’s completely addicted to the thrill of stealing. Now he must feed his addiction by stealing only what has been stolen, as the “Thief of Thieves.”
The first arc of the comic is being penned by Nick Spencer; Shawn Martinbrough is the artist. Eglee will serve as showrunner of the potential TV series and will executive produce alongside Kirkman and Walking Dead executive producer David Alpert.
The Spies of Warsaw
The Spies of Warsaw, starring Tennant (Doctor Who) and Janet Montgomery (Black Swan), is adapted by Emmy-winning writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais from Alan Furst’s novel, Spies Of Warsaw.
The piece is set in Poland, Paris, London and Berlin in the years leading up to the Second World War. As per Deadline, production begins next month in Poland. The cast also includes Anton Lesser, Burn Gorman, Richard Lintern, Dan Fredenburgh, Ludger Pistor, Ann Eleonora Jørgensen and Jan Pohl.
