Agents Of SHIELD‘s Clark Gregg has revealed more insight into Coulson’s death, Centipede and the yet-to-be-seen Clairvoyant – plus, Stan Lee has landed a guest-star role.

With the second half of the season promising to ‘fuse all the standalone episodes together into a broader, connected story,’ Gregg offered more insight into Centipede’s apparent leader, the mysterious Clairvoyant, and how he factors into Coulson’s ‘near-death’ recollection. He told EW:

All I can say is this very mysterious and compelling villain who seems to be driving the Centipede organization, this person they only call the Clairvoyant, knows more about how Coulson was brought back to life than Coulson has been able to get from S.H.I.E.L.D. And yet this is the one thing apparently in the world that the Clairvoyant can’t see with enough clarity to be satisfied, so all the high tech resources that Centipede has, which are quite formidable, nearly as formidable as S.H.I.E.L.D. as I can tell, are brought to bear, stripping these memories out of Coulson’s brain. And from there, that’s the modus through which we get to explore this from Coulson’s point of view.

In other news, Stan Lee will guest on Agents Of SHIELD – and we have the photo to prove it.

While details on his character are sketchy, the comic book legend tells THR that it’s a “big role.” Check out the first look photo below. The episode is slated to air Feb. 4, though that could change:
