AGENT CARTER CANCELLED OR RENEWED?
Agent Carter is an 8-episode limited series with the potential to run multiple seasons. The first season serves as a ‘bridge’ during Agents Of SHIELD‘s Season 2 winter break.
Agent Carter Cancelled? Agent Carter Season 2? Follow the renewal timeline as it unfolds:
May 7, 2015 – ABC renews Agent Carter for a 2nd season.
April 26, 2015 – Hayley Atwell confirms Agent Carter‘s Season 2 fate will be decided in three weeks, and believes the renewal chances “look good given the fan response”.
April 9, 2015 – Reports of an Agents Of SHIELD spinoff in development at ABC for next season places a question mark over the renewal prospects of Agent Carter, which, prior to the announcement, was considered to have an even chance. Has the spinoff (if it goes to series) killed Peggy’s hopes of continuation, or could Marvel have three shows on ABC next season?
March 29, 2015 – Still no official word on the future of Agent Carter, but Hayley Atwell expresses her desire to see Peggy’s past and future explored further in Season 2.
March 6, 2015 – Showrunner Michele Fazekas says that Agent Carter Season 2 could expand to other locations such as Hollywood or Europe, though she’s still waiting to discover whether the show will be renewed, per CBR.
February 25, 2015 – Agent Carter hits a series low 1.3 preliminary rating in its Season 1 finale. With the show uncertain to return for Season 2, it’s perhaps a good thing that Peggy got her “emotional closure”. As for the big surprise ‘cliffhanger’, the producers have played down its significance for a potential Season 2, but remain eager to continue Peggy’s adventures should ABC renew.
February 24, 2015 – EP Michele Fazekas reiterates that Agent Carter‘s first-season finale will look to provide closure while also leaving several “loose ends” to be picked up in Season 2, renewal permitting.
February 9, 2015 – Agent Carter executive producer Louis D’Esposito is unsure when he’ll hear renewal news from ABC, but says Season 2 would likely continue the limited series approach.
January 28, 2015 – Exec producer Tara Butters says ABC wont make an official decision on Agent Carter Season 2 until after the first season has aired.
January 15, 2015 – While rejecting suggestions that Agent Carter is cancel-proof due to its Marvel ties, ABC boss Paul Lee defends the show’s ratings slip in episode three, pointing out that Agent Carter is so far delivering “double” in the time-slot compared to the previous year.
January 7, 2015 – Agent Carter gets off to a solid start in its two-hour premiere, drawing a 1.9 key demo ratings (down on the Agents Of SHIELD Season 2 premiere 2.0 rating, but up on its 1.7 midseason finale). While not a shoe-in for renewal, Agent Carter has put itself in the race.
January 6, 2015 – Hayley Atwell reiterates the potential for Agent Carter to continue across many seasons, but admits the fate of the show depends on enough viewers watching and the powers that be at Marvel (and surely ABC).
January 4, 2015 – Haley Atwell confirms that Agent Carter is aiming for a multi-season run and is not designed to be a one and done. The actress speaks of a possible five season arc to incorporate Peggy Carter’s full, time-spanning, story.

Set in 1946, Agent Carter centers on Peggy Carter who finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy winds up doing administrative work when she would rather be back out in the field — putting her vast skills into play and taking down the bad guys. But she is also trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers — aka Captain America.
When old acquaintance Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper, Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger) finds himself being framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons to anyone willing to pony up the cash, he contacts Peggy — the only person he can trust — to track down those responsible, dispose of the weapons and clear his name. He empowers his butler, Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World), to be at her beck and call when needed to help assist her as she investigates and tracks down those responsible for releasing these weapons of mass destruction. But Jarvis, who is a creature of habit and sticks to a rigid daily routine, is going to have to make some major life changes if he’s going to be able to keep up with Peggy.
If caught going on these secret missions for Stark, Peggy could be targeted as a traitor and spend the rest of her days in prison — or worse. And as she delves deeper into her investigation, she may find that those she works for are not who they seem, and she might even begin to question whether Stark is as innocent as he claims.
