[tps_title]#12: HOMELAND (Season 3)[/tps_title]
“You belong here”
Homeland Season 3… What are we going to do with you? Season 1 will always be the classic tale of Nicholas Brody’s return to America. Season 2 is the one where things turned a bit ridiculous halfway through. But the show’s third season is harder to judge. With Mandy Patinkin’s character Saul Berenson given more of a front seat to the action and Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham joining the cast, there’s certainly no complaining about the acting on the show this year. There are just certain areas where the show can’t reach the quality of its earlier seasons, which is a true shame.
Season 3 of Homeland was largely set up to make the long overdue death of a main character a reality. This year, we said goodbye to one of the show’s Big Three in a season that tried its best to tell a good, intricate story for all of its main characters. It just didn’t work out as well as planned. In various parts, the plot didn’t make much sense, or was just so far off from the realistic world it pretended to be in that it almost started to feel like a parody of itself. While the show’s writers had the right idea in showing less of Brody, the episodes he did appear in turned out to be the season’s best. Damian Lewis’ presence lifted the show to a whole other level as usual, and the story tightened up in its race towards the end. The season finale worked well in terms of closure – it certainly feels like the show has found its right ending. The only problem is that it didn’t end, and I’m not sure I can see how it’s going to continue – not to mention improve – in seasons to come.
