[tps_title]#13: ONCE UPON A TIME (Seasons 2 & 3)[/tps_title]
“Pan never fails”
Once Upon A Time has always been a different kind of show. Any story that relies heavily on the use of magic can be hard to take seriously, and the writing style has been known for its quirky cheesiness. For some, it’s cute. For others, it’s unbearable. This year was no exception: the show had its ups and downs for sure – a Wonderland spin-off among them. Captain Hook, Neal, Greg and Tamara, “The Dragon”, Cora, August, Robin Hood, Peter Pan, Ariel… All these new or more prominent characters had their own controversial storylines. The show’s second season did end on an exciting note: the kidnapping of Henry and the journey to Neverland.
The Neverland arc in Season 3 was one thing that did not disappoint this year. Once took a darker turn, but didn’t lose any of its charm. The separation of the cast allowed for more character development and quick, fun interactions, and the introduction of an “evil” Peter Pan worked out very well. Brilliantly portrayed by young actor Robbie Kay, the ageless villain caused a lot of trouble for some of the show’s fan favorites in the first half of the season. An unexpected twist in the season’s ninth episode tied up many plotlines in a neat little bow, and I for one was impressed. With the midseason finale leaving us hanging in the middle of yet another major plot twist, it will be interesting to see what the show looks like next year.
