ABC Want to Scare You Silly with ‘Paranormal Activity’ TV Series

The creators of Paranormal Activity, the creepy movie that only got a jump out of me on the very last scene, are teaming with Dreamworks TV and ABC Studios to bring the horror hit to the small screen.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Paranormal writer-director Oren Peli and “Paranormal 2″ screenwriter Michael R. Perry have co-created an idea that will transport the movie’s style into a TV series, titled, ”The River.” The story follows the search for a person who goes missing on the Amazon river and uses the found-video footage format seen in movies such as “Blair Witch Project,” “Cloverfield” and, of course, “Paranormal Activity.”

Although this doesn’t excite me a great deal, I have to be fair and say that Paranormal Activity was a decent film that kept me interested throughout. This was largely due to the intimacy of the plot and the performances of Katie Featherstone and Micah Sloat. It will be interesting to see how a similar story could pan out over a series and whether it will contain carry-over from the movie (which was left pretty open-ended) or its sequel.

What do you think – does the idea of Paranormal Activity the TV series send chills down your spine, or send you to sleep?

Here’s what it might look like:

I really disliked “Cloverfield” (which airs on TV as I type this). I’m not a fan of the cam-corder eyewitness type of film. I could never get through Blair Witch, but I did watch a flick called “Quarantine” with Jennifer Carpenter last year, which I found acceptable, although I don’t ever anticipate a re-watch.

Give me lavish production values and a decent plot (and maybe a hottie in a lead role) and I’m happy as a pig in poop.

“Quarantine” sounds mildly like an episode of Fringe that aired earlier this year. :)

Speaking of production values, and considering the movie was made on a relative budget (which helped sell the authenticity), it will be interesting to see how lavish they make the TV show look.
