FOX is moving ahead with a 24 spinoff centered on a ‘male terrorist hunter character in his 20s’, executive producer Howard Gordon confirmed to TVLine.
The spinoff, which is envisioned as a limited/event series in the guise of last year’s Live Another Day, could become an ongoing series in its own right if successful.
The plan is for Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer to potentially feature as a recurring guest star.
The project would find the new male ‘antihero’ working alongside an older, more experienced female agent. Yvonne Strahovski’s Kate Morgan could feature in some capacity.
Just a few weeks ago Gordon told Yahoo TV that the next iteration of 24 would be Jack-less:
“Evan and Manny are writing a script right now, which, for the moment is a Jack-less 24.
The possibility is always there for Jack… There’s an open door, basically, but I think both Kiefer and we, I think correctly, felt that this character needed a little bit of a break. We really believe that real-time concept is just a really cool narrative engine, so they’re telling a story, Evan and Manny, that I think is in the tradition of 24.”
Providing it gets the seal of approval, the 24 spinoff could hit the seriable screen in 2016.
